Being healthy in 2016!

If you read my 2016 new years resolutions post, you'll know that being healthier was one of things I wanted to achieve this year. Lucky for me Aqua Pura, a brand of natural mineral water, got in touch to help me start 2016 healthy!

Water is extremely important for your body. I was unaware that I was actually becoming dehydrated because I take a bottle of water to work everyday and just sip it throughout the day but the other week I was experiencing heart palpitations out of the blue - I had nothing to be scared of or worried about so I was really confused. After a good ol' google of my symptoms I quickly realised that I was actually dehydrated!

Aqua Pura gave me an awesome challenge to help me start 2016 with more water put into my lifestyle. Here are their top tips:

Begin by finding a brave friend to start this next chapter with - having some friendly support (and a bit of healthy competition!) should help.

Amazing 70% of the body is made up of water and you need to drink around 6-8 glasses a day to stay hydrated.

Take the stairs, walk to work or even go to a few classes at your local gym. Find new ways to incorporate exercise into your daily routine.

Self-motivate! Don't go for a complete lifestyle overhaul on day one. Set yourself achievable goals that you can aim for and conquer, changing your routine one step at a time.

Eat a good breakfast every day - try to get up ten minutes earlier in the new year so that you have time to enjoy a healthy breakfast before dashing out of the door.

Snack wisely - if you're feeling a little peckish between mealtimes, grab some unsalted mixed nuts, chopped raw vegetables or dried fruit and wash it all down with a glass of water!

Enjoy your surroundings - get to know your local area or reacquaint yourself with nature by going on regular walks.

Try something new - as well as cutting out some of your bad habits, introduce some new and exciting recipes and hobbies and see what works best for you and your lifestyle.

Moderation is key - don't be strict on yourself that you ban everything you enjoy, but be sure to stay healthy as much as possible so that you deserve the occasional treat.

Tackle things head on - challenge the negatives in your life and see if you can start the New Year without them.

So, how did I find the challenge?

I told my work colleague of the challenge and she has been constantly encouraging me to keep hydrated at work. I definitely think having someone egg me on during the day at work, when you can be the most forgetful of drinking any, is a great way to start this challenge.
I don't think I've drank as much as I should be but I'm definitely on my way. I would say I've drank maybe 4/5 glasses of water a day, which is loads more than I used to.
I already walk to work so this was already part of my routine but I've even been walking home and back for my dinner and I've been fitting in a couple of work outs in the morning too.
One thing that I haven't been doing is eating a good breakfast but I've actually motivated myself and bought some porridge oats and bananas so I'm looking forward to a lovely breakfast every morning before work so my stomach isn't growling at 10:30!

I've also noticed that my skin has gotten a little bit better. My face has been really really spotty for a while now and I've become quite self conscious about it but since drinking more water they've been clearing up. My sleep has been loads better and I've found going to sleep is a lot more easier than it had been. I always keep some water by my bed so that if I wake up dehydrated in the night I always have some on hand for me.

Try the challenge for yourself and let me know how it goes on!

Travel destinations for 2016/2017

Travelling has suddenly become a thing I want to do. A few years ago, I was just Jennie who liked to stay in one country, with little experience of the world and hadn't flown in ten years and now suddenly I just want to explore the entire world right now. In reality, it would take me a lot longer than a few years to travel the whole world so I've made a realistic list of places I want to (and will be) visiting within the next two years.

I have spent possibly the last year just lusting over this place and dreaming about it. I thought it would be mega money to go here but after lots of hours perusing through, Expedia and I realised that if I try a bit harder to save it is actually do-able. So in October this year me and Ellis are off to the beautiful island. I can't wait to wake up to the most stunning views, watch one of the world's best sunsets, ride quad bikes around the entire island and hike from Thira to Oia and back!

Amsterdam has been a place I've wanted to visit for a couple of years now. I love how much culture is there - plus I'm a sucker for a dutch pancake and Nutella. I'm secretly treating Ellis to a few days here next January (he doesn't know so let's hope he doesn't read this blog post)!

Although I hate the cold, visiting Iceland is somewhere I hope to go next year because it seems magical! I want to see the Northern Lights so badly and the idea of sitting in an outdoor warm Blue Lagoon in the freezing cold air seems strangely appealing!

After watching Eat, Pray, Love I have fallen in love with Bali and would love to visit the island for myself. I love peace, mindfulness and zen so I think I would love it here. It seems so different to anywhere else I've been and I want to try new things and go to new places so this will hopefully happen in 2017.

This will take mega saving but me and Ellis have our hopes on going to San Francisco next year, if not then the year after! His family live over there and I just really want to visit America so I really hope this happens. Ellis has been before when he was little so I'm excited to explore the city with him!

Where do you want to adventure to?

How I made my sleep better

For a while now I've been struggling to sleep, especially at my mum's house. If you didn't know last February my mum's house got robbed and since then (even though she's moved) I've struggled sleeping when I'm at her house. About a month ago I just could not sleep at all, at 3am I ended up getting up and walking back to my dad's to sleep there because I was that stressed out about it.

Over the Christmas period when I had time off work I was staying up until like 1am, maybe later, most nights and wasn't waking up until 9/10 in the morning. The week after when I knew I had to get into my usual routine because I had to be up for work at 7 I decided to purchase some sleep spray to try and help me.

After reading many reviews I decided to buy myself This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray. At £16 for 75ml I was a little weary at first but the reviews I read said that it really does work so I had to try it myself.

I tried it at home first (my dad's) because although I got a better sleep here I still was struggling to be tired at a reasonable time because I messed up my sleeping pattern over Christmas. After using it for the first time I begun to feel more relaxed quite quickly after getting into bed and soon found myself ready to sleep.

A few days later I tried it at my mum's house. When I'd been staying at her's recently I was actually worried about when I would have to go to bed because I just knew I wouldn't be able to sleep. After putting it off for ages, I sprayed lots of the spray on my pillow and blanket and got into bed. I honestly drifted off so quickly and woke up the next day feeling fresh after a peaceful sleep with NO nightmares.

Last weekend, I stayed in Wales for a night and I didn't use the spray for the first time in nearly a month. I didn't intentionally not use it, I just fell asleep before I had the chance to spray it. My sleep that night was horrendous, I had a horrific nightmare relating to my mum's house and it really just freaked me out. I woke up 3/4 times in the night and found it really hard to get back to sleep.

I think that's a pretty positive review about this spray. I'm so happy I purchased it and it will definitely continue to be part of my nighttime routine now because it really has benefit me.

2016 New Years Resolutions

Looking back at my 2015 Bucket List I laughed as I realised I merely achieved six of them. When I finished 2014 I didn't know I was going to be unemployed for half of the year so I wasn't aware I wouldn't be able to afford to do some of the things on my bucket list. I also was very lazy in 2015, so that's got to change. This year I'm going to set some realistic goals for myself.

I am actually currently looking for a driving instructor in my area and will be starting this month. I'm so excited to learn to drive as it will give me a whole new sense of freedom. I'll be able to drive to see Ellis whenever I want, not having to rely on bus times, and I'll be able to go on days out not having to rely on if I can get a lift to the location!

I have some actual trainers now so I can't waste £37 can I? Me and Ellis are off to Lanzarote at the beginning of May so I want to be in good shape by then so that I don't feel self-conscious in dresses and bikinis whilst I'm away. I also want to start eating better. I definitely don't eat enough vegetables and I really want to start eating meals with vegetables in that I actually enjoy. I also really need to start drinking more water so I'm going to start off with trying to drink a litre a day and then try and up it by drinking two litres a day. Baby steps is what it takes!

As I just mentioned I'm going to Lanzarote in May with Ellis, and yes I've been there before but we only went for a few days and we didn't get to see as much as I had hoped so this time we're going for a full week and will be making the most of our time there. I've also semi-booked a trip to Santorini at the end of October for me and Ellis as it's such a gorgeous place and we really want a holiday for the end of the year just before it's Christmas time. I really love my job so I can't see my financial side to be changing in a negative way so I know I will be seeing more of the world now!

I really am a spender but I've spent the last few months splurging and now I think it's time to start saving. I have two holidays to save for, a car, a music festival and also I need to start saving for Christmas earlier on. I've just got to take into account that if I save it can lead me to having bigger and better things.

I definitely became a more positive person in 2015 and in 2016 I want to spread some of that happiness to my family and friends. Whether that means just being there to chat to and giving some good advice or treating them to something special when they least expect it. It's nice to just make somebody happy when they're going through a tough time.

As you can see I've not made a huge list of unrealistic goals but I've made some that I really think I can achieve throughout the year.

lots of love
